RaidGuild Improvement Proposals (RIPs)

RaidGuild Improvement Proposals, or RIPs, are essential for keeping the Guild operating at full potential. While RIPs primarily focus on internal operations, some proposals have resulted in open-source tools that benefit the entire web3 community. Smart Invoice, a payment escrow tool, is one example that began as a Guild project and is now widely used outside of our DAO.

Requesting Funding for an RIP

To secure funding for a RIP, it’s recommended to start by gaining soft consensus from the DAO before submitting an official proposal on-chain. Here’s the process:

  1. Create an Issue: Open a new issue in the RIPs Repository describing the proposal’s value to the DAO and the planned approach.
  2. Add to RIP Requests: Add the issue to the RIP Requests Project or request a Keeper’s assistance.
  3. Engage in Discord: Share the issue link in the #rip-discussion channel in Discord to invite feedback and ideas.

If your RIP requires additional expertise, post a brief description and link in the #who-is-available channel to recruit team members. Present your proposal at the weekly Roundtable to refine it further.

Making a Funding Proposal

Once your team is ready, follow the steps outlined in Proposal Types to submit a formal request for DAO funding to bring your RIP to life.

Deliverables and Accountability

To improve transparency and accountability, we use an escrow system where the DAO approves the final deliverables before payment is released. To align expectations, clearly outline all expected deliverables in your proposal.

Escrow Options

For RIP projects, several escrow methods can be used, including Smart Invoice, a shared Safe, or project-specific DAO. Each method must allow:

  • DAO co-signature for fund releases
  • DAO control over funds, with the ability to withdraw if needed

Escrow Process

  1. Proposal Acceptance: Upon RIP approval, include escrow details (such as a shared minion address) in your proposal.
  2. Fund Transfer: Once accepted, funds are transferred to the chosen escrow.
  3. RIP Execution: The RIP party completes the project work.
  4. Review Status: The RIP moves to “Review” status and is discussed during the Roundtable.
  5. Proposal for Fund Release: After review, a proposal is submitted for DAO approval to release the funds.
  6. DAO Approval and Payment: The DAO votes to approve the release, transferring funds upon successful completion.

Dispute Resolution

In cases of dispute, the process will depend on the escrow method. For example, a shared minion escrow could involve a resolution flow with LexDAO if necessary.

Note: As we continue to refine the escrow process, alternative escrow setups can be proposed for DAO consideration.

RIPs are a cornerstone of Raid Guild’s evolution, and by carefully planning, funding, and executing these proposals, you contribute to our collective success and sustainability. Let’s build, improve, and strengthen the Guild together!
